Musical Synopsis

A Cricket named Grillo addresses the audience and welcomes them to the town of Salerno where they are celebrating “The Festival of Spring” We quickly meet the puppet maker Geppetto and the woman who cares for him, Fedelia only wishes he were not so lonely with only just his puppets to talk to. Geppetto goes into his shop and works on his newest puppet, a little boy “Enough for Me.” Before Geppetto goes to bed he wishes that the puppet that he has named Pinocchio were a real boy. The Blue Fairy arrives that night and decides that Geppetto deserves a son, however he is still made out of wood.

The next morning in town we meet the villain of the show, Scellerto with his two goofy side-kicks, Manesta and Funesto. Scellerto wants to start a theatre that is dedicated to opera performing puppets. “Grande Opera of Puppetry” That same morning Geppetto wakes up to quite a surprise, Pinocchio is alive! Geppetto and Grillo try to teach him how to walk but Pinocchio wants to give up so they sing “You Gotta Try” and the end of the song there is a knock at the door, Scellerto is looking for some puppets. Scellerto immediately wants Pinocchio but Geppetto successfully deters him, sending him away.

Geppetto, Pinocchio and Grillo head to town for breakfast, “I gotta try reprise” is sung by the entire village. Pinocchio runs off when Fidelia isn’t watching, he joins a classroom of students. When asked what his father does, Pinocchio tells a lie and his nose grows. One of the children declare that he isn’t even real, he’s made of wood. Scellerto lurking about hears this and instantly forms a plan “My Masterpiece.”

The blue fairy appears as Pinocchio is crying with Grillo at his side. She wipes his tears, fixes his nose and remind him to always tell the truth. Manesta and Funesto show up and trick Pinocchio into following them so he can get a job and make his father proud. Grillo tries his best, but Pinocchio refuses to listen and leaves with them both. The next thing we know Pinocchio is in a costume and singing in front of a student audience, “Standing on My Own Two Feet.” At the end of the performance Pinocchio realizes that Manesta and Funesto are collecting all the coins that he was planning on giving to his Papa, so Pinocchio grabs the bag and runs.

Manesta eventually catches up and convinces him that she can make the coins double, he hands the bag back just as the children from the audience are running his way. They tell Pinocchio they are headed to Asino Island where no grown ups are allowed. Pinocchio instantly decides that is better than facing his Papa empty handed. Meanwhile, back at the Puppet shop, Gheppetto is getting ready to leave to look for his son. Fidelia tells him she will wait there in case he shows up. “The One I’m Waiting For”.

Back in the Village Manesta and Funesto are searching for Pinocchio having rowed back to shore. They discuss how they are really the talent but these puppets keep stealing their thunder, “Have it All.”

Pinocchio and Grillo are walking into the belly of the whale when they see Geppetto walking towards them. Pinocchio tells Geppetto the entire story and realizes that Geppetto loves him no matter what. The Blue Fairy appears, “The Miracle is in Your Heart.”The Whale suddenly sneezes and all is saved.
